WIFI TOOLS

NetStumbler (also known as Network Stumbler) is a tool for Windows that facilitates detection of Wireless lans using the 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g WLAN standards. It runs on Microsoft Windows 98 and above. A trimmed-down version called MiniStumbler is available for Windows.

FEATURE=
•Wardriving
•Verifying network configurations
•Finding locations with poor coverage in one’s WLAN
•Detecting causes of wireless interference
•Detecting unauthorized (”rogue”) access points
•Aiming directional antennas for long-haul WLAN links

inSSIDer began as a replacement for the aging Netstumbler, which had not been actively developed for several years. In addition, MetaGeek heard complaints that NetStumbler did not work with modern 64-bit operating systems or even Windows Vista. It was then decided to build an open-source Wi-Fi network scanner designed for the current generation of Windows operating systems that surpassed the capability and overall quality of NetStumbler, which had been the standard Windows Wi-Fi scanner for several years.

FEATURE=>
  • Works with internal Wi-Fi radio
  • Wi-Fi network information (SSID, MAC, Access point vendor, data rate, signal strength, security, etc.)
  • Graph signal strength over time
  • Shows how Wifi networks overlap
  • Open source (Apache License, Version 2.0)
  • GPS Support
  • Export to Netstumbler(*.ns1) files
  • KML Logging

CommView for WiFi is a powerful wireless network monitor and analyzer for 802.11 a/b/g/n networks. Loaded with many user-friendly features, CommView for WiFi combines performance and flexibility with an ease of use unmatched in the industry.CommView for WiFi captures every packet on the air to display important information such as the list of access points and stations, per-node and per-channelstatisticssignal strength, a list of packets and network connections, protocol distribution charts, etc.

FEATURES=>
  • Scan the air for WiFi stations and access points.
  • Capture 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n WLAN traffic.
  • Specify WEP or WPA keys to decrypt encrypted packets.
  • View detailed per-node and per-channel statistics.
  • View detailed IP connections statistics: IP addresses, ports, sessions, etc.
  • Reconstruct TCP sessions.
  • Configure alarms that can notify you about important events, such as suspicious packets, high bandwidth utilization, unknown addresses, rogue access points, etc.
  • View protocol "pie" charts.
  • Monitor bandwidth utilization.
  • Browse captured and decoded packets in real time.
  • Search for strings or hex data in captured packet contents.
  • Log individual or all packets to files.
  • Load and view capture files offline.
  • Import and export packets in Sniffer®, EtherPeek™, AiroPeek™, Observer®, NetMon, Tcpdump, hex, and text formats.
  • Export any IP address to SmartWhois for quick, easy IP lookup.
  • Capture data from multiple channels simultaneously using several USB adapters.
  • Capture A-MPDU and A-MSDU packets.

Aircrack-ng is a network software suite consisting of a detector, packet sniffer, wep  and WPA/WPA2-PSK cracker and analysis tool for 802.11 wireless LANs. It works with anywireless card whose driver supports raw monitoring mode (for a list, visit the website of the project or [1]) and can sniff 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g traffic. The program runs underLinux and Windows; the Linux version has been ported to the Zaurus and Maemo platforms.

NetSurveryor is a diagnostic tools that falls under the category of wifi scanners or 802.11 network discovery tools.

FEATURES=
  • In addition to the grid that repeatedly updates information about each access point, there are 6 graphical, diagnostic views: (1) Timecourse of Beacon Qualities For Each Access Point, (2) Differential Display of Beacon Qualities for Each Access Point, (3) Usage of Each of the 802.11 b/g Channels, (4) Timecourse of the Usage of Each of the 802.11 b/g Channels, (5) Heatmap / Waterfall Chart of the 802.11 b/g Channels and (6) Channel Spectrogram of the 802.11 b/g Channels. The more (and different) ways you have at looking at data then the greater the chance something will catch your eye that you might otherwise miss if only a single type of chart were used.
  • Generates reports in Adobe PDF format that include the list of access points and their properties along with images of each of the 6 diagnostic charts.
  • Powerful and innovative logging and recording capability. Other products, if they even offer a recording/playback feature, usually follow the “tape recorder” paradigm. NetSurveyor's playback mode is unique in that it shows you all the recorded data – that is, you do not press a ‘play’ button and then forced to watch minutes or hours of data scroll by in the hope that some unusual event will catch your eye.  NetSurveyor’s unique approach makes reviewing recorded data a snap.
  • If your laptop or PC has multiple wireless adapters installed – not a problem. When NetSurveyorlaunches it detects each of these and asks you to choose which one to use for that session.
  • Supports most all wireless adapters – that is, those that are installed with an NDIS 5.x driver (or later).  This would include wireless adapters running on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.
  • Can be run in ‘Demo’ mode – so, even if you don’t have a wireless adapter attached to your desktop or laptop machine you can still experiment with the application to see whether it suits your needs.
